America’s Next Top Model McKey Sullivan returns to Fashion Week Trinidad & Tobago

Port of Spain, Trinidad (May 31, 2010) – Fashion Week Trinidad & Tobago 2010 is set to receive yet another celebrity with the return of the very excited America’s Next Top Model McKey Sullivan. Ranked one of People Magazine’s Most Beautiful People in 2009 and Winner of Cycle 11 of the popular T.V. show America’s Next Top Model (ANTM) hosted by Tyra Banks, Sullivan fell in love with Trinidad and its fashion industry last year when she walked for Dawn Victor, The Cloth and Heather Jones in Fashion Week Trinidad & Tobago (FWTT) 2009.

FWTT 2010 is the kick-off of McKey’s international modeling tour where she is expected to work in other countries such as Australia and Paris. Hosted by Ambassador Hotel, McKey is set to tour the island to hot spots she missed on her last trip. She is particularly looking forward to getting a little taste of Carnival from her sponsors Harts Mas Camp who will be photographing her in one of their yet-to-be-released designs for Carnival 2010.

Fashion Week Trinidad & Tobago launches first-ever comprehensive seminar series

Port of Spain, Trinidad (June 1, 2010) – Fashion Week Trinidad & Tobago 2010 launched today its first every seminar series. Lovers of fashion, emerging professionals and seasoned industry veterans alike will enjoy 28 sessions hosted throughout five days at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad Conference Centre.

The seminars cover topics from biodiversity to intellectual property and copyright, to the business of fashion, developing greater Caribbean export, to styling, to makeup application, to photography, to the definition of the Caribbean Aesthetic, to technology influence on fashion.

The series officially opened at 9 a.m. with a special presentation by Mr. Carl Francis, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Trade and Industry. His presented a stimulating session titled “The Fashion Industry becoming an Economic Sector.”

The series features 30 other prestigous speakers, including Carmen Penco, Caribbean production specialist consultant and Educator from Toronto Canada; Tonika, Sealy Senior Services Advisor Caribbean Export Development Agency from Bridgetown Barbados; Hazel Hospedales Julien, Regional Coordinator for NECO; Carol Mongo, former Fashion Design Chair at Parsons Paris; Claudia Pegus, designer and UNESCO Seal of Excellence Award Recipient.

Fashion Week Trinidad & Tobago Opens This Weekend

Port of Spain, Trinidad (May 24, 2010) – The much-anticipated third annual Fashion Week Trinidad & Tobago (FWTT) opens this weekend in Tobago in grand style. Spectacularly set on Pigeon Point beach, the runway will heat up with Tobago styles, resort wear, swimsuits and collections exclusive to the Tobago shows.

The weekend begins on Saturday, May 29th with the who’s who in Tobago, designers and media gathering for a opening reception at Café Coco in Crown Point.

Then on Sunday, May 30th, as a visual tribute to the island’s heritage and its influence on Tobago style, Fashion Week Trinidad & Tobago will feature a full traditional Moriah wedding as part of the night’s show. Guests are invited to dress their best, join the procession, and “walk de wedding.” The wedding procession will begin from the Pigeon Point entrance at 6 p.m. and will conclude at the doors of the FWTT tent. The runway presentation will follow at 8 p.m. featuring the island’s top designers showing off “Tobago Style.”

On Monday, May 31st, models will strut down the runway in the daylight in FWTT’s first swimwear and resort show. Showcased will be designers showing for the first time in Trinidad & Tobago including Johnny Vincent who designs swimwear for trend-setting celebrities such as Rhianna; up-and-coming designers such as Sandra Hordatt with her “Mood Swings” swimwear line; and national favorites expanding into resort wear collections such as Claudia Pegus, Radical Designs and Millhouse.

After the last stride on the runway, the action will spill outside of the FWTT tent for a Fashion Party on the Beach musically powered by DJs from the World Famous Zen.

Additional “sneak peek” activities include a 30-minute daytime presentation of Claudia Pegus’ swimwear collection on the sandbank inside Nylon Pool. The showcase is open to the public and accessible by boat.

FWTT Fashion Walk goes to Tobago

Hot on the spike-heeled procession of models selected to be part of Fashion Week Trinidad & Tobago (FWTT3) who walked the walk around the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port of Spain last Sunday, established models, as well as all aspiring models based in Tobago, will have the chance to strut their stuff in Tobago come Saturday May 15, 2010.
