Mario Lewis studied at the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana and Goldsmiths University in London and has participated in numerous international exhibitions and residency programs.
He had his first solo show in London in 2005. He Returned to Trinidad that same year with the aim of establishing a foundation for research and development of visual arts. In 2006, Galvanize was established as the first fruit of this initiative. Galvanize a collective of creative practitioners and facilitators based in Trinidad.
Galvanize offers a collaborative, investigative platform for the work of newer and less familiar contemporary artists in the Caribbean. In 2007 he also initiated Galvanize: Studio-Lab-Intervention Independent art and research program for postgraduate art students.
He was appointed a member on the academic faculty at The University of Trinidad and Tobago as an instructor and researcher in the department of Digital Media. Currently Mario is developing a new Eco-friendly and sustainable fashion label called, By-My-Art.
